Venezuela: Chavez Says Cancer Has Returned, Names Maduro His Successor

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez announced late Dec. 8 that his cancer has returned and named Vice President Nicolas Maduro as his successor, should a development occur that would require snap elections to be called, The Wall Street Journal reported Dec. 9. It appears that Chavez is arranging for a managed political transition to increase the likelihood that his party will fare well after he leaves office.
