U.S.: Putin Ordered Election Hacking, Intelligence Chief Says

U.S. Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the hacking of the Democratic Party during U.S. elections last year and promised that Putin's motive for doing so would be revealed next week, the BBC reported Jan. 5. Russia has denied meddling in the elections, and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump also expressed doubt about the conclusions drawn by U.S. intelligence officials. Trump will be briefed on the full intelligence report Jan. 6, and an unclassified version of the report will be made public next week. Last week, the United States imposed a set of mostly symbolic sanctions on Russia for its interference in U.S. elections.
