U.S.: Defense Secretary Tells NATO Allies To Increase Defense Spending

U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis told NATO member states they must begin increasing defense spending by the end of 2017 or the administration of President Donald Trump will "moderate its commitment" to them, AP reported Feb. 15. Mattis did not provide details about any ways that Washington would reduce its commitment to alliance members. Mattis's comments, which echo demands by Trump during his presidential campaign, come during his first trip to Brussels as the new U.S. secretary of defense.
