Turkey: Fight Against Kurdish Militant Group Will Continue, Prime Minister Says

The fight against the Kurdistan Workers' Party, known by its Kurdish acronym PKK, will continue, but Turkey may conduct negotiations with the group's political extension, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Jan. 9 during a news conference in Niamey, Niger, Anatolia reported. Erdogan said that Turkey wants PKK forces to leave the country after giving up their arms. Home to the world's largest Kurdish population, Turkey has long struggled to develop a policy to manage its Kurdish constituency and to neutralize Kurdish militant groups like the PKK.
