Syria: U.S. Plans For Raqqa Include Deploying Up To 1,000 More Troops

The U.S. military has drawn up plans to send as many as 1,000 additional troops to Syria as the coalition aligned against the Islamic State readies its offensive against Raqqa, military sources said, the Washington Post reported March 15. The plan, which has yet to win approval from U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis or President Donald Trump, could double the number of American troops in Syria at the risk of further embroiling the United States in the country's complex civil war and putting more U.S. personnel in harm's way.
