Limited clashes have taken place in Syria since the most recent cease-fire was implemented at midnight on Dec. 29, Daily Star Lebanon reported Dec. 30. The Syrian government carried out 16 airstrikes in northern Hama province, and rebels clashed with loyalists on the border of Idlib and Hama. Fighting also occurred near Damascus, while loyalists tried to advance in southern Aleppo. Russia and Turkey brokered the truce, in which the Islamic State was not invited to participate. Though agreement may bring some progress in the short term, it will be difficult to maintain in the long term.
