Striking workers clashed with police at Madrid's Barajas airport Feb. 18, the first day of a weeklong strike over pending job cuts, Reuters reported. Hundreds of workers protested inside one of the airport's terminals, while another 2,000 people demonstrated outside. Police reportedly beat some of the workers with truncheons and forcefully removed others from the terminal. At least five protesters were arrested. Spain has one of the highest unemployment rates in Europe.
