South Korea: North Korean Rocket Launch Was Actually Missile Test, Defense Ministry Says

North Korea's Dec. 12 rocket launch was essentially a test of a ballistic missile capable of flying more than 10,000 kilometers (6,214 miles) with a warhead of 500-600 kilograms (1,102-1,323 pounds), the South Korean Defense Ministry said Dec. 23, Al Jazeera reported. Though North Korea has a long way to go in developing a credible nuclear deterrent, its recent launch has had significant political implications for the country's regional standing and foreign policy options.
