South Korea: Military Will Not Conduct Landing Drills On Islands

South Korea will drop landing maneuvers from its planned military drills near the disputed Dokdo Islands (Takeshima Islands in Japanese), a senior South Korean official said Sept. 4, Yonhap reported. The purpose of the landing exercises was fulfilled through South Korean President Lee Myung Bak's recent visit to the islands, the official said. South Korea's army, navy, air force and coast guard will start their biannual defense exercises Sept. 7, amid heightened tensions in the East China Sea.
