Russia, Germany: Leaders Discuss Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel discussed the Ukrainian crisis in a phone call initiated by Berlin on Feb. 23, the Kremlin's press service said, Voice of Russia and Reuters reported. The two leaders agreed that Ukraine's territorial integrity must be safeguarded, and that an economically and politically stable Ukraine is in both countries' interests. According to The Telegraph, British Foreign Secretary William Hague echoed the West and Russia's mutual interest in a stable Ukraine, but has warned Russia not to intervene in the crisis or undermine Europe's economic assistance to Kiev.
