Russia: CSTO Air Defense To Include Central Asian Members, General Says

Russian Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov said April 19 that Central Asian members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) will be included in the organization's unified air defense and anti-missile defense system, AKIpress and RIA Novosti reported. Gerasimov's comments came after a top-level CSTO meeting in Minsk. The move to incorporate Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan into the military bloc's joint air defense system has been the subject of discussions for some time now. Doing so comes as part of Moscow's pursuit of greater military and security integration with countries in its near abroad, particularly with states already closely aligned with it like CSTO member states.
