Pakistan: 31 Killed In Clash Between Taliban And Militia

At least 31 people were killed Jan. 26 when Pakistani Taliban members attacked a pro-government militia in Tirah, between Peshawar and Afghanistan, Reuters reported. The militia killed 15 Taliban and captured eight, while the Taliban killed 13 militia members. Three villagers, including an elderly woman, were killed. Afghan and Pakistani opponents of the Taliban have been using their own militias to combat the group because they lack confidence in their governments' abilities to deal with the Taliban threat after NATO withdraws from Afghanistan.
