North Korea: Preemptive Military Action May Be Necessary, Tillerson Says

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on March 17 declared an end of the U.S. policy of “strategic patience” toward North Korea and said it may be necessary to take preemptive military moves against Pyongyang if its nuclear weapons and missile programs reach a level that Washington believes requires action, the Washington Post and Yonhap reported. Tillerson’s comments came during a news conference in Seoul, following a visit to a U.S. base near the Demilitarized Zone. The secretary of state also declared an end to the U.S. policy of “strategic patience” toward North Korea and called for tighter sanctions on the country. The problem for U.S. policymakers is that there is no real solution to the North Korea problem.
