Nigeria: Ukrainian Oil Workers Released

Three Ukrainian oil workers being held captive by militants off the coast of Nigeria's Bayelsa state since Feb. 17 were released Feb. 20, according to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Ukraine's 5 Kanal TV reported. Details about the conditions under which the Ukrainians were freed have not been reported. Nigeria is facing rising domestic political stress, a dynamic that has historically been accompanied by a rise in militancy, kidnappings and bloodshed.

Editor's note: An earlier version of this situation report incorrectly implied a connection between the kidnappers and al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.
