Mali: Rebel Group Ansar Dine Has Split, Leader Says

A wing of Malian rebel group Ansar Dine has split off to create its own movement and says it wants to negotiate a solution to the crisis in Mali, AP reported Jan. 24, citing a statement published by Radio France International. Former Ansar Dine leader Alghabass Ag Intalia said in the statement that the group, which will be called the Islamic Movement for the Azawad, will look to negotiate a solution and is willing to fight Ansar Dine. Ansar Dine, which means "supporters of religion," consists primarily of ethnic Ifoghas.
