Mali: Militant Group Says It Has Taken Kidal Back From Islamists

The National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad, an armed Tuareg group, has taken over the northeastern Malian city and region of Kidal, Le Figaro reported, citing a representative of the group in Europe. The movement is now part of the fight against Islamist militants, the representative said, adding that the group's fighters took cities in the region without resistance because the people are on their side. Leaders of Ansar Dine and al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb are in hiding in the mountains, sources said. Mali's jihadists will likely disperse to wage a guerrilla campaign.
