Mali: International Intervention Will Not Happen Until September 2013, U.N. Peacekeeping Chief Says

International military intervention to oust militants from Mali is nearly inevitable, but action is not likely until September or October 2013, U.N. Under-Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations Herve Ladsous said Dec. 5, Reuters reported. The time required to rebuild the Malian army, weather conditions and the need to pursue peace talks will delay the operation, Ladsous said. Jihadists in northern Mali have been preparing for such an intervention.
