Libya: Protesters Reportedly Smash Prime Minister's Car, Disrupt Meeting

A local militia in the eastern town of Al Bayda on Dec. 4 smashed Libyan Prime Minister Ali Zeidan's car and stormed the building in which Zeidan was meeting with a local council, a local security official said, the Libya Herald reported Dec. 5. The protesters belonged to a group called the Ali Hassan Al-Jaber brigade, the official said. Zeidan's security detail helped him exit the building unharmed. The government in Tripoli is moving to consolidate its power while balancing against the northern militias and regional power centers such as Benghazi.
