Lebanon: Cabinet Ministers Threaten To Seal Border With Syria

Cabinet ministers warned Dec. 21 that Lebanon may stop receiving Syrian refugees, a move aid officials said could violate international and domestic law, The Daily Star reported. Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour and Energy Minister Gebran Bassil called for stopping the influx of refugees and closing the border. During a Cabinet session Bassil suggested that the border with Syria be closed as Prime Minister Najib Mikati appealed to the international community to come up with financial assistance for the country’s ministries being taxed by the refugee population. Since the beginning of the uprising in neighboring Syria, Lebanon has been threatened with instability.
