Japan, U.S.: Joint Air Exercises Held

A U.S. and Japanese joint air exercise began Jan. 14 and will end Jan. 18, an official said Jan. 15, Al Jazeera reported. The exercise involves six U.S. FA-18 fighter jets and four Japanese F-4 jets. The drill will be held over the Pacific off the coast of Shikoku. China's military modernization and growing assertiveness in regional territorial disputes will continue to fuel Japan's military normalization process.
