Japan: Government Wants Creation Of Hotline With China

The Japanese government wants to move forward in creating an emergency military hotline with Chinese authorities amid tensions over allegations that Beijing used weapons-targeting radar against Japanese naval assets, a Japanese lawmaker said Feb. 12, The Wall Street Journal reported Feb. 13. The lawmaker said Japan would also like to consider creating a framework within which Japanese and Chinese vessels can communicate directly to avoid such incidents. The Chinese navy is engaged in brinksmanship to push its maritime territorial claims.
