Italy: Monti Will Not Run In February Elections, He Says

Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti has said he will not run in the country's next election (which will likely be held Feb. 24), though if political parties that support his anti-crisis agenda ask him to head the next government he will consider it, AP reported Dec. 23. Monti's Dec. 21 resignation marks the end of technocratic rule in Italy and could lead to a return of political instability.
