Italy: Leaders Of Italy, France, Germany To Meet Ahead Of Brexit Summit

Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande will meet on the small Italian island of Ventotene on Aug. 22 to discuss plans for the European Union without the United Kingdom, The Guardian reported. According to Hollande, the meeting is meant to show solidarity between Europe's three biggest countries ahead of a bigger summit to discuss the future of the European Union now that the United Kingdom has voted to leave it. The three leaders hope to reach an agreement on plans for further EU integration so as to be able to put up a common front at the summit in September. Meanwhile, Renzi is dealing with political instability in Italy and will likely try to convince his counterparts to give the country financial leeway to introduce tax breaks and increase public spending.
