Italy: Chamber Gives Spending Measure Vote Of Confidence

Italy's government won a vote of confidence from the Chamber of Deputies for a law meant to curb local governments' spending, ANSA reported Nov. 8. The decree includes new provisions for political parties' use of public funds. The Chamber — the lower house of Italy's parliament — is expected to vote on the new law Nov. 13 and pass it to the Senate for discussion. The law comes during a period of increasing political fragmentation and governmental instability in Italy.
