Iraq: Northern Kurdish Region Halts Oil Exports, Official Says

Iraq's Northern Kurdish region has suspended oil exports over a payment dispute with the government in Baghdad, an Iraqi Kurdish official said Dec. 25, AP reported. The official said Baghdad did not pay the full 1 trillion Iraqi dinars ($848 million) to oil companies in the region. Tensions between Arbil and Baghdad have been rising, and on Dec. 20, Reuters reported that oil shipments from the region had dropped significantly.
