Iraq: Kurdish Force Reportedly Fires On Iraqi Spy Plane

A Kurdish force near the disputed Kirkuk region opened fire on an Iraqi spy plane inspecting the region, an unnamed official from the Kurdistan Regional Government's Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs said Dec. 18, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan-funded Khandan website reported. The incident, which was confirmed by a Peshmerga Affairs deputy minister, took place reportedly in an area north of Kirkuk. The plane was forced to leave the area but was not downed, according to the report. Relations between Baghdad and the Kurdish government are at their lowest since the fall of Saddam Hussein.
