Iraq: Islamic State Claims Blast Killing Dozens In Baghdad

A large vehicle-borne improvised explosive device ripped through Baghdad's al-Bayaa neighborhood on Feb. 16, killing at least 48 people and wounding many more, Iraq's Interior Ministry said, Reuters and CBS reported. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the blast, which detonated in a crowded area that is home to garages and used car dealers. The bombing marks the second time in a number of days the group has targeted an area popular with car dealerships, suggesting that the group may be turning to a method that allows it to better hide explosives-rigged vehicles in plain sight. Though the Islamic State remains a deadly force, the militant group has entered a slow decline that will continue throughout 2017.
