India, Pakistan: Border Remains Tense With Exchanges Of Fire, Official Says

An Indian defense spokesman said Pakistani troops on the evening of Jan. 10 fired mortar shells and small arms at Indian posts along the Line of Control in the Krishnagati sector of Poonch district, Indian news agency PTI reported Jan. 11. Indian troops returned fire, the spokesman said, adding that there were no injuries on the Indian side. The border is tense but the situation is under control, an army official said. Recent Clashes in Kashmir ended a period of relative calm that had existed along the Line of Control.
