France: Police Searching For Second Suspect In Paris Shooting

French police are hunting a second suspect in connection with shootings that killed a police officer and injured two others in central Paris on April 20, a French Interior Ministry spokesman said April 21, Reuters reported. A police arrest warrant issued after the attack indicated that another suspect had arrived in France by train from Belgium. The Islamic State claimed the attack, which took place on the the Champs Elysees boulevard. The assailant, a 39-year-old French national, lived in a town east of Paris, was shot dead by police. French President Francois Hollande called the incident an act of terrorism. At the assailant’s home east of Paris, police found a machine gun, two hand guns, and three kilograms of TATP explosive. The attack comes just days before France’s contentious presidential election. Two men were arrested earlier in the week on suspicion of planning an attack ahead of the vote.
