Egypt: Tanks Deployed Outside Presidential Palace

Army tanks and armored troop carriers are stationed around Egypt's presidential palace in the streets where supporters and opponents of Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi clashed late Dec. 5 and early Dec. 6, killing five people and injuring hundreds of others, Reuters reported, citing Egyptian state media. The soldiers' badges identified them as members of Egypt's Presidential Guard and Republican Guard, whose duties include guarding the president. An opposition group is calling for additional protests Dec. 6. The military has been largely hesitant to intervene in Egypt's unrest.
