Egypt: President Grants New Powers To Army Until Referendum

Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi in a decree granted the army powers of arrest and ordered it to work with police until the country's constitutional referendum, scheduled for Dec. 15, is complete, AFP reported Dec. 10. The decree was issued prior to rival mass protests scheduled for Dec. 11. The decree will be lifted once results of the referendum are in.
