Egypt: NGO Crackdown May Hinder Aid - Clinton

The United States saw no justification for Egypt's raids on nongovernmental organization (NGO) offices and the crackdown may jeopardize aid and relationships, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Feb. 4, Reuters reported. To receive U.S. aid that includes $1.3 billion in military aid, Clinton must certify Egypt's support for a civilian government, including due process. The crackdown is part of a probe into foreign funding of NGOs, Egyptian officials said. Clinton met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr on the sidelines of an international security conference in Munich.
