Congo: Rival Rebel Factions Clash

Factions of the M23 rebel group clashed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo's northeastern Rutshuru region, leaving 10 people dead, a regional hospital source said Feb. 25, AFP reported. The conflict occurred between supporters of M23 military chief Gen. Sultani Makenga and followers of M23 political leader Jean-Marie Runiga; the two leaders reportedly have different opinions on resuming conflict with the Congolese army. African leaders signed a peace deal aimed at ending the conflict in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo on Feb. 24.
