Congo: Rebel Group Takes Control Of Eastern City

The M23 rebel group has taken control of the eastern city of Goma after clashes with Congolese soldiers, Reuters reported Nov. 20. Scores of rebels walked through the city unchallenged as U.N. peacekeepers watched. An M23 spokesman said the town fell at 11:33 a.m. local time. Rwanda has been known to exploit deteriorating security in the Democratic Republic of the Congo's east.
