Congo: M23 Militia Pushes Toward Bukavu

The Rwandan-backed militia M23 is pushing toward the strategic city of Bukavu, Reuters reported Nov. 23. According to a Reuters correspondent and local sources, the M23 militants have taken control of the town of Sake and Congolese troops have pulled back to Minova. Kigali has used M23 as a proxy group in eastern Congo to exploit Congolese mineral reserves, secure Rwanda's western border, and counter potential threats from rival ethnic groups.
