China: Situation Along Myanmar Border Is Stable, Foreign Ministry Says

The border area between China and Myanmar has stabilized since the Myanmar government announced it would halt fighting with the Kachin Independence Army in northern Myanmar, Xinhua reported Jan. 22, citing a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson. The situation in Yunnan province is stable, the spokesperson said, citing provincial authorities. The Kachin Independence Army has yet to agree to an armistice, but the rebels have few options.
