China: Officials To Discuss Compensation Improvements For Expropriated Land

Chinese officials will meet the week of Dec. 24 to discuss a draft amendment that would improve compensation for expropriated farmland, Reuters reported, citing Xinhua. According to the report, future compensation will be expanded to include rural residences, planted crops, a relocation allowance and social security fees. A series of rural protests over the government's land seizures have swept across the country over the past few years, highlighting deep-seated conflicts over economic development in rural China.
