Afghanistan: U.S. Commander Takes Control Of NATO Mission

U.S. Marine Gen. Joseph Dunford took command of the NATO-led mission in Afghanistan on Feb. 10 and is expected to oversee the withdrawal of most foreign troops from the country by the end of 2014, Reuters reported. As Afghan forces assume a greater role in securing the country in 2013, their success or failure will heavily influence ongoing negotiations with the Taliban and will shape the potential settlement.
