Afghanistan: President Orders Some U.S. Forces Out Of Wardak Province

Afghan President Hamid Karzai has ordered U.S. special operations forces to leave Wardak province within two weeks, a presidential spokesman said, BBC reported Feb. 24. According to the spokesman, the measure was taken in response to allegations of disappearances and torture, including the beheading of a university student, that have been leveled against Afghans considered part of the special operations forces. As foreign troops withdraw from the country, Afghan forces will take on a greater combat role and will be making an effort to establish a legitimate local security force capable of exerting pressure directed by the government in Kabul.
