Afghanistan: Car Bomb Explodes Outside U.S. Military Contractor's Compound

A car bomb exploded outside a compound housing a U.S. military contractor in Kabul on Dec. 17, killing one person and wounding at least 15 more, security and government officials and company representatives said, AP reported. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, the Afghan Islamic Press Agency reported. Officials from the contractor, Virginia-based Contrack, said the bomb, which blew apart an exterior wall, was detonated in a suicide attack, although Afghan police and an Afghan Interior Ministry spokesman said this was still unclear. The spokesman said at least two of those injured were foreigners, and a Contrack security officer said Americans were among the injured, one seriously.
