Israel: Steps Taken To Mobilize Reservists

Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak has requested approval for mobilizing up to 75,000 reserve troops as part of the Israeli military campaign in Gaza, Reuters reported Nov. 16, citing unnamed political sources. The sources said Barak was calling other Cabinet ministers seeking authorization to mobilize the troops. During Operation Cast Lead, Israel's most recent large-scale military operation in Gaza from late 2008 to early 2009, an air campaign similar to the current one was followed by a ground assault.
