EUROPE

  • Dec. 17: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will continue his visit to Italy.
  • Dec. 17: EU environment ministers will meet to discuss sustainable industrial development and natural resource usage.
  • Dec. 17-18: The Italian Parliament will vote on the country's budget law.
  • Dec. 18: Brazilian Agriculture Minister Enio Marques will visit Geneva to defend Brazil against suspicions of the European Union and World Organization for Animal Health of a mad cow disease outbreak in the country.
  • Dec. 20: The European Central Bank Governing Council will meet to discuss monetary policy.
  • Dec. 21: The International Monetary Fund will vote on the next disbursement of Kosovo's $53.6 million loan tranche.
  • Dec. 21: An EU-Russia summit will be held in Brussels.

FORMER SOVIET UNION

  • Dec. 18: Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich and Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet in Moscow to discuss bilateral cooperation.
  • Dec. 19: Kyrgyzstan will become the chairman state of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
  • Dec. 21: An EU-Russia summit will be held in Brussels.

SOUTH ASIA

  • Dec 17: Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik will continue his trip to India.
  • Dec. 20-21: The ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit will be held in New Delhi.

EAST ASIA

  • Dec. 19: A presidential election will be held in South Korea. 
  • Dec. 19-20: The Bank of Japan will hold a monetary policy meeting.
  • Dec. 22: China and New Zealand will mark their 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

AMERICAS

  • Unspecified date: Demining efforts along the border with Chile are expected to conclude.
  • Dec. 17: Argentina has been given this deadline by the IMF to improve its national financial statistics in time for a meeting with the body or it could be censured.
  • Dec. 17: Argentina's nationalized energy company, YPF, will emit $955 million in bonds.
  • Dec. 17: Representatives from Japan and Colombia will begin discussing the implementation of a bilateral free-trade agreement.
  • Dec. 17-19: Representatives from the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia rebel group will meet in Bogota to discuss disputes in the country's land redistribution policy as part of ongoing peace negotiations.
  • Dec. 18: Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan will visit the United States.
  • Dec. 18: The Brazilian Congress will vote on possible changes to the country's oil royalties bill.
  • Dec. 21: Guatemala and Trinidad and Tobago are expected to sign four agreements on issues such as investment protection, tourism and cultural exchanges, as well as a partial trade agreement.

MIDDLE EAST/NORTH AFRICA

  • Dec. 17-20: Turkey and Azerbaijan will conduct a high-level military dialogue in Ankara.
  • Dec. 19: French President Francois Hollande is scheduled to visit Algeria.
  • Dec. 21: Joint rescue and relief drills by Iranian and Omani armed forces will begin in Iran's southern port city of Bandar Abbas.

AFRICA

  • Unspecified date: Ghana's opposition New Patriotic Party is expected to officially challenge the results of the country's Dec. 7 elections. 
  • Unspecified date: Former Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi is expected to tour the Sahel region as a U.N. special envoy. 
  • Unspecified date: Zimbabwean national carrier Air Zimbabwe will undergo crucial safety audits by the International Air Transport Association. 
  • Dec. 17-20: South Africa's ruling African National Congress will continue its 53rd congress in Mangaung.
