Fourteen people were in custody in the United States and Canada on Aug. 23 as a result of an FBI sting operation that exposed a well-organized scheme to buy weapons and raise funds for Sri Lankan militant group the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. Although U.S. intelligence and law enforcement are primarily focused on jihadist networks such as al Qaeda, the sting demonstrates that the security net can snare other militant groups operating in the United States.
