French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius called on Tunisia, Algeria, Chad, Mali and Egypt to counter the growing jihadist threat emerging from southern Libya, The Daily Star reported May 28. Fabius made the statement during a visit to Niger, where suicide bombers killed 25 people at military barracks and a French-run mine on May 23 after crossing into the country from Libya, according to the Nigerien government. The fall of former Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's regime has contributed to a security vacuum throughout the region that jihadists have been able to exploit.
