At least 200 protesters opposed to the regime of Syrian President Bashar al Assad stormed the Syrian Embassy in Cairo on Jan. 27, AFP reported. The protesters broke doors and windows while forcing their way into the embassy, which was vacant for the weekend, before Egyptian security officials emptied the building. Officials made no arrests. The embassy will send a formal letter asking for improved protection, which was very weak at the time of the protest, Syrian Ambassador to Egypt Yousuf Ahmed said. The ambassador said protesters also invaded his residence, which was similarly empty, in recent weeks.
