Ayatollah Mohammad-Baqer Hakim, chairman of the Supreme Council of the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI), said April 9 that the SCIRI is against U.S. military rule in Iraq, and has vowed to resist such moves -- warning of civil war if a U.S. general is named to oversee the country. This is potentially an Iranian power play to create a pro-Iranian Shiite government and wrestle control of Iraq away from a pro-American government divided between the Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds.
