The U.S. government will treat the April 15 Boston Marathon bombings as an act of terror, Reuters reported, citing an unnamed White House official. The official said any event that involves multiple explosive devices, as the incident in Boston appears to have, would be approached as an act of terrorism.

U.S. President Barack Obama said in a news conference about the Boston Marathon bombings that the FBI director and secretary of Homeland Security have mobilized the appropriate authorities to respond to the incident. He also said the governor of Massachusetts and city officials will have every federal resource available to care for victims of the blasts. He added that it is not yet clear who was responsible for the explosions and cautioned against jumping to conclusions, but said anyone found responsible will feel the "full weight of justice."
