Gen. Khin Nyunt, a former prime minister of Myanmar on trial for corruption, was convicted July 22 on all eight charges he faced. The charges, ranging from bribery to corruption, resulted in a 44-year suspended sentence. Instead of prison, Khin Nyunt probably will be placed under house arrest. Khin Nyunt's two sons received sentences of 68 and 51 years on similar charges, with their sentences to be served in prison. The outcome of the trial of the former prime minister's wife remains unclear.
