Move and Countermove: Ahmadinejad and Bush Duel
We are sending you a second Media Advisory this week alerting you to an important follow-on to STRATFOR’s earlier Geopolitical Intelligence Report from August 27, ” Endgame: American Options in Iraq.” Today’s Geopolitical Intelligence Report follows.
Austin, TX, Aug. 29, 2007 — For a long time we have seen U.S.-Iranian negotiations on Iraq as a viable and even likely endgame. We no longer believe that to be the case. If the goal of creating a stable, pro-American Iraq no longer is possible, then the U.S. national interest is to limit the expansion of Iranian power — and particularly limit the Iranian threat to the Arabian Peninsula. The new U.S. mission, therefore, likely will shift to blocking Iran in the aftermath of the Iraq war.
