South Africa deployed 200 soldiers to Uganda on March 28, Reuters reported.

Uganda will not withdraw its forces in the Central African Republic that are hunting for Lord's Resistance Army fighters, even though Seleka leaders, who recently took power in Bangui, have threatened to expel foreign forces, Reuters reported March 26, citing Ugandan military sources.

Ugandan troops have been sent to the Uganda-Democratic Republic of the Congo border after fighting resumed between Mai Mai militia and M23 rebels near the border, New Vision reported Feb. 25.

The M23 rebels, after retreating from Goma, demanded negotiations with the Congolese government and will go to Uganda soon for talks, an M23 spokesman said Dec. 5, AP reported.

The M23 rebel group has maintained its grip on towns in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, despite its agreement to withdraw, Reuters reported Nov. 28.

Ugandan Defense Minister Crispus Kiyonga is mediating talks between Congolese officials and the M23 militia to help both sides reach an agreement to end the violence, Kiyonga said Nov. 25, AP reported.

M23 rebels advanced to the city of Goma on Nov. 18 as they pushed back U.N. peacekeepers and Congolese troops, Reuters reported. According to the M23 spokesman, the rebel group has no plans to take the city or its airport and are only advancing to break the capacity of the Congolese army.

Some 44 M23 rebels in the Democratic Republic of the Congo were killed Nov. 15 during fighting between the rebel group and the Congolese army near the Ugandan border, ending a two-month cease-fire, Congolese officials said, AP reported.
